What To Watch: September Edition

Ah, finally! Movies I have waited for all year are finally being released, whether it’s in theaters or moved to streaming platforms. At this point, I don’t even care WHERE I watch good cinema, just as long as I can. These past few months, I have found it hard to stay inspired to write reviews because I wasn’t watching good TV or movies… I was watching anything that helped the time inside pass.

Now, my fire is back. I am excited to watch cinematic, intelligent, heart-warming, thrilling films that bring the definition of “escapism” back to life for me. September is the rebirth of movies in 2020. Here is a list of show and films you won’t want to miss this month. I’ll be watching. Will you?

Tenet – September 4 (In Theaters)

The FIRST film I will be seeing in theaters since March will rightfully be going to Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated masterpiece, TENET. Fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist (John David Washington) travels through a time and mind-bending journey that will make the movie Inception look like a walk in a park. I could cry, I am so excited.

The Boys – September 4 (Amazon Prime)

I am pumped to see my favorite band of super, anti-hero/ sort-of-villains back in action. Whatever you call them, this show is brilliant. Season one was dramatic, nauseating, and pure, unnerving fun. I expect nothing less from season two.

Mulan – September 4 (Disney +)

Do I need to give much of an explanation as to why you should see Mulan? Minus the absence of singing and Mushu, this live action looks like it could be one of the best yet. Also, if you don’t have Disney +, what are you doing?

Woke – September 9 (Hulu)

Once you open your eyes to the radical social and racial injustices of the world, you start seeing cartoon characters. At least that’s what happens to Keef Knight (Lamorne Morris) after an incident with a cop that changes his view on life, his career, and the power he holds with just a pen in his hand.

The Devil All The Time – September 16 (Netflix)

Honestly, watching this trailer, I am not 100% sure what is going on but I don’t even care. I saw Robert Pattinson, the World War II era, and some creepy stuff happening. This would be AMAZING to see in theaters but I’ll take this film anyway I can get it.

Ratched – September 18 (Netflix)

How on earth does Ryan Murphy have the time and the genius to make so many incredible shows all the time? Sarah Paulson takes the lead in this one as a young nurse with a secret, sinister agenda. This one looks like American Horror Story and Hollywood had a super messed up love-child.

Antebellum – September 18 (In Theaters)

From the producers of Get Out and Us, Antebellum comes with it’s own terrifying twists. This time-bending thriller is sure to be some eye-opening entertainment.

Enola Holmes – September 23 (Netflix)

As soon as Millie Bobby Brown broke the fourth-wall at the beginning of this trailer, I thought, “Okay, I’m in!” With a stellar cast and a fresh take on a classic story, this looks like the girl power movie of the year.
