What I’ve Been Watching: The Politician, Hustlers, The Boys

I know, I know! I’ve been off my game, but listen. When you don’t feel like writing, you can’t force it. Good news is that I feel my writing bug coming back and I am here to catch you up on what I’ve been watching. I have a little bit of everything for you today – Some new Ryan Murphy, a few corrupt superheroes and…strippers? Stay with me here.

The Politician (Netflix)

Think Glee but less singing and more conniving. The latest project from American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy covers a wide-spread of political topics with sharp wit, saturated colors and a wickedly-talented cast. Payton Hobart (Ben Platt) knows deep in his soul it is his destiny to be President of the United States and the first step is becoming the student body president, no matter what it takes. If you’re looking for a quick, satirical and wildly enjoyable show to binge, you’re welcome in advance.

Score: 3.75/ ★★★★★

Hustler (In Theaters)

Based on a true story, Hustlers puts in the work, delivering a smart, sexy film with a stellar, all-women cast. Destiny (Constance Wu) is doing all she can to make ends meet while taking care of her grandmother, when she meets Ramona (Jennifer Lopez), a star dancer and secretly say business woman. Ramona takes Destiny under her wing, teaching her the art of taking what you want, even if that means stealing it from unsuspecting Wall Street executives.

Score: 3.75/ ★★★★★

The Boys (Amazon Prime)

I love my superheroes but there is something so wrong and so satisfying about watching superheroes be bad. The Boys are an unlikely gang of strangers who come together to seek revenge on The Seven, the “greatest band of superheroes the world has ever seen,” who secretly abuse their power and use their powers for their own self-gain. It’s graphic, shocking, repulsive and too much fun.

Score: 3.75/ ★★★★★
