Black Mirror has done it again. The British television series, only available on Netflix, has released the streaming services first ever, interactive movie. You are in complete control of what happens to the main character… Or are you?
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch follows Stefan Butler (Fionn Whitehead) in his many trials and errors while creating a video game called Bandersnatch – Based on a book, where the reader can follow different paths to experience different endings. The writer of the book, Jerome F. Davies, went mad creating all the possible storylines but Stefan is determined to finish the game before his own mind unravels.

Only a few minutes into the movie, you will begin to get prompted with questions to choose Stefan’s fate. The catch is you only have 10 seconds to answer. If you choose “wrong,” you will see the consequences of your decision before it sends you back to the life-changing question.
First of all, you will need to be watching on a smart device to play. The movie will let you know before you begin whether your device is compatible or not. Also, be sure to keep an eye out for all the deliciously sneaky Easter eggs throughout the film! If you have watched any other episodes in the Black Mirror series (not required for enjoying this film), then you will notice names and places seem familiar.
My other advice is to trust your gut when choosing for Stefan. There are so many subliminal messages in the dialogue and scenes that will tell you all you need to know in order to make your decisions. The best part is you will slowly start to wonder how much control you really have…

It’s no surprise when I say the writing in this film is brilliant. All the numerous storylines and paths are perfectly woven together in a way that makes it new and exciting each time you go down a rabbit hole. I was cheering at one point because it was so. good. On top of that, the acting, costuming and eclectic music (that sometimes you get to choose) is spectacular, making the experience even more immersive.
Honestly, this is the best content to come to Netflix in all its years of streaming. I was completely wrapped up in this game from start to finish. I swear, I completed almost every option/ ending it allowed me to do. The whole process will take you about 2 hours but I can’t recommend playing this groundbreaking game enough.
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is available to play NOW, only on Netflix.
