I have a knack for being able to predict how good a movie will be based solely on the trailer alone and let me tell you, this film EXCEEDED all my expectations and then some.
Baby Driver is vibrant, sexy and unlike anything I have ever seen before. Written and directed by Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead), this film has it all – car chases, humor, a killer soundtrack and a fantastic, star-studded cast including Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx and my personal favorite, new-comer Ansel Elgort (Fault in Our Stars).
Baby (Elgort) is forced to repay his debts by becoming a heist getaway driver for a ring of criminals. He finds solace and escape from the ringing in his ears by listening to music 24/7 for every mood and every situation. Along the way, he falls for a diner waitress, Debora (Lily James) and right when he is about to get out for good, things get messy.
The writing in this film is brilliant and it’s so visually pleasing, it’s insane. Baby Driver‘s stylistic cinematography, sound editing, jump cuts and creative storyline come together to form a film that’s in a category all its own.
Fun fact: In one of the opening scenes, Baby dances around town on his way to grab some coffee and you can find lyrics to the song he is listening to in the graffiti on the buildings. Also, notice how that whole sequence was one.continuous.shot.
Do yourself a favor and take this holiday weekend to go see Baby Driver right now!
