Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Movie Party: Moulin Rouge!

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is one of my favorite places in town to go see movies. The atmosphere, the food and over-all movie viewing experience doesn’t compare to anywhere else. I have been dying to go to one of their movie parties and when I saw they were showing Moulin Rouge!, I couldn’t purchase my ticket fast enough.

Moulin Rouge! is a film that is near and dear to my heart. In 2009, my fellow movie-loving friend sat me down and said, “Listen, I’m going to show you this movie and you might fall in love with Ewan McGregor”. She was right and I was hooked. The Moulin Rouge! became one of the symbols of our friendship and so, of course, she had to be my date to the viewing party.

Now, when decide to go to an Alamo movie party, you aren’t just purchasing a ticket – you are signing up for an full-on experience. All the normal rules when watching a movie at at a theater go out the window. The audience is encourage to shout out their favorite lines, sing-along, cheer for their favorite actors and “boo” at the villains.

The theater also gives you little trinkets to use with the film. For Moulin Rouge!, everyone had:

  • A light up, diamond ring to turn on and wear while Nicole Kidman sings, “Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend”
  • A stretchy, green frog to throw in the air when the Duke says, “Look, my dear, a little frog!” during the song, “Come What May”
  • Maraca’s to shake during, “Roxanne”
  • And a green glow stick to wave in the air when the Green Fairy appears after Ewan McGregor drinks absinthe for the first time
