Five Things You Might Have Missed During Star Wars: The Last Jedi

You know Star Wars. You love Star Wars and because of the incredible, cultural phenomenon that is Star Wars, it has become one of the biggest and longest running movie franchises in cinematic history.

The highly- anticipated release of the most recent installment, The Last Jedi, broke the box office around the world. Fans and critics had mixed reviews and I’m sure you have some strong opinions about the film yourself. But while you were being reawakened by the Jedi force, my mind was elsewhere – picking out all the things you might have missed.

***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW***

1. Carrie Fischer’s daughter reprises her supporting role – and tribute hair style.

Billie Lourd, daughter to Carrie Fischer and Bryan Lourd, is best known for her roles in Scream Queens and American Horror Story: Cult. Back in 2015, you may have been able to spot her in the resistance, taking orders from Princess Leia, her real-life mother. She is back in The Last Jedi with more screen time and still sporting two buns on top of her head – an homage to her mothers famous hair style.

2. The film going silent causes controversy for moviegoers.

A little over an hour and a half into the film, Vice Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern) sacrifices herself by blasting the final Rebel cruiser to light speed…directly into the Mega Destroyer. This moment was extremely impactful and a creative choice was made by director Rian Johnson to make the scene completely silent.

While most people realize what was happening, some moviegoers have thought that the silence was a glitch in the film, leaving the theater to complain and shouting during the scene. Since then, some theaters have even put up signs, warning that what happens during that moment is for cinematic affect (duh).

3. Did you spot Gary in the casino?

Carrie Fischer’s beloved dog, a french bulldog named Gary, had a special cameo in the film, very briefly during the casino scene. It’s sweet to think that Gary and his mom can forever exist in a galaxy far, far away.

4. Luke (doesn’t) make his mark.

During the intense and final battle between Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker, you can’t help feeling overwhelmed with anxiety. Who will win? The Master Jedi or his student? Well, if you looked closely, you would see that during that final scene, Luke doesn’t leave any foot prints on the red planet… exposing that he isn’t really there but rather using the force to fight his nephew.

5. The second-to-last Jedi?

Did anyone else catch the little boy at the very end of the movie use a little bit of the force to move his broom…? I guess you’ll have to go watch all 2 hours and 35 minutes again just to see it.
