A movie that takes place in the future, after a disastrous war that left the country divided, and in need of sanctions to keep the peace? Sounds strikingly similar to the already wildly popular series, The Hunger Games.
This small piece of knowledge I had about the film already made me less interested, being a die- hard Hunger Games fan myself. But after putting some more thought into it, I decided I should see what all the fuss, positive and negative, was about. There are only two words to summarize my thoughts on this film: Surprisingly impressed.
The film begins with Beatrice, played by Shailene Woodley (try saying that 5 times fast), getting ready for her big test that will reveal which faction she will spend the rest of her life in. After “inconclusive” test results, Beatrice finds herself with a tough decision. Stay with the faction she has known her whole life or become something new?
The film starts off slow but builds with intensity, drama and plenty of sexual tension between Beatrice and Four, the strong and incredibly hot bad boy played by Theo James. This film kept me on the edge of my seat and it was nearly impossible to look away from the screen. Hunger Games forever, but Divergent is stiff competition.
