Now on Netflix: Orange is the New Black (Season 5) Review

The inmates of Litchfield want justice… and they are willing to riot for it.

This highly anticipated season premiere of the smash-hit Netflix original series picks up right where season 4 left off. Dayanara has a gun to CO Humphrey’s head with all of her fellow inmates urging her to pull the trigger. This is the beginning of a new era at Litchfield where the inmates call the shots.

Orange is the New Black never fails to disappoint. Whether it’s with the drama, love stories or sarcastic comedy, people are always wanting more. I’m not going to lie, I found last season to lack a little bit of OITNB normal amount of luster but I’m so glad I pushed through.

This season is so fantastically written and well-thought-out that it makes up for last seasons somewhat dull storyline. If you are stuck on season 4, I highly recommend finishing it JUST to get to this season. To be honest, I think this is the best season by far.

Season 5 has something very special about it and I’ve tried to put my finger on what makes it so different and I just can’t. I can only narrow it down to a few things.

First of all, Piper is not the main focus of this season. Instead of focusing on her annoying love triangle with Larry (ugh) and Alex, this season show cases other characters. We learn more about inmates like badass Frieda and continue follow the dynamic duo, Flaca and Maritza, making them even more human and lovable.

Also, this season isn’t as heavy as other seasons. Yes, there is still very messed up stuff that happens… it wouldn’t be Orange is the New Black unless something happened that made us wince or look away. However, we get to see the inmates in a different light. I don’t want to give too much away but you’ll see what I mean when you watch.

If you are behind, catch up because this season is worth it. I finished it in 2 days, for goodness sake. After you finish all the episodes, comment down below what you thought of this season and we can both complain about how we have to wait a whole year for the next one.
